Hola Amigas!
Even in California I am horrible at directions. And by horrible I am
horrible. Last Monday when we drove to Santa Rosa with Hermana Garcia
we got horribly lost and be horribly lost I mean it was bad haha we
called the sisters to try and help us get back to the right road but
driving around Northern California it's all vineyards so we could have
been going in circles for all I know because the scenery never
changes. Luckily we finally got to Santa Rosa because we saw another
missionary car and followed them. You might ask how we knew it was an
elders car, well they had a bike rack with two bikes and we just knew
haha
I had to say bye to Sister Nivarro who was going home ahh no Bueno.
She is the bees knees and I'm going to miss that fella. We stayed the
night in Santa Rosa with some sisters. We spent the night seeing
people in Santa Rosa. I was paired up with a Spanish sister and so all
night we saw Spanish people and all night I just smiled and said si y
gracias haha
The next morning I met my new companion. Her name is Sister Waite and
she is 24. She is from northern Maine ( i know ppl actually live
there) haha She is skinny mini with a big black Afro. She is pretty
legit. She graduated college and actually worked for a political party
traveling the country and then decided to come on a mission. She
scared me in the beginning hahaha but now I like her she is very nice.
She has been out for 4 months so don't ask me why they put the two
greenies together haha
And then we had to make the 2+ hour drive back from Santa Rosa. Lol
and it was not any better then our drive back there. We were lost for
40+ minutes.... We finally asked someone for help in Napa and it ended
up being a really cool experience. We got to share a message about
Jesus Christ and got her information so she could learn more. So moral
of the story-- I am supposed to have bad directions because it led us
to yesenia, the lady who helped us get on the right road home. She was
so nice that she actually drove us to the freeway entrance we needed
so we wouldn't get lost getting there. She was a very sweet lady for
sure.
Sister baker had us over with some 90+ yr old ladies for lunch later
that week. It was the cutest thing we had ever been too. She had
little tea cups with lemon water and little tuna sandwiches for us
haha it was so cute. I don't know how this 95 year lady pulls
together these lil lunch parties but it's the real deal haha
This week I was struggling because all of our investigators but one
had dropped us and we didn't have any one to teach. We had spent all
week contacting people but we couldn't get any investigators. I was
feeling discouraged and missing sister Saavedra. We just keep on
pressing on and on Saturday we found 2 solid investigators. And then
on Sunday we found 2 more. We went from 1 to 5 people to teach. I saw
that God blesses those after the trial of their faith.
One of the investigators we found just lost her son to a murder. It
broke our heart to see this mother break down in front of us, to hear
and see her eyes and her oh so tired heart. There is nothing more
heart breaking than seeing a mother missing her son. I think one of
the best things about this gospel is the knowledge that families can
be together forever. That death has no victory and that she will see
her son again.
This was a week full of miracles. Full of love and joy.
The spirit of missionary work is real and it makes me feel a joy I
can't describe. Testifying to others that Jesus Christ will bless
their life, will CHANGE their life, is a feeling I can't describe,
it's a feeling I hope I don't ever lose.
I love and miss you guys.
Godspeed always,
Sister Thurgood
