The weeks just keep on getting better, I love it I love it.
This week we had a Baptism. My first baptism of the mission. Our investigator was so excited for this day. We were nervous because none of her family were planning on coming to the Baptism and being Easter Weekend, we wondered if any of the members would show up. we prayed that people would come and her baptism would go well. We show up to the baptism and see a bunch of chairs set up. We wondered who would fill them or if they would even be filled. We went to go make copies in the Library and when we came back in, almost all the chairs were full with families and couples and some missionaries that we didn't think were coming to our baptism. What was even more special was seeing Ginger walk in and see all these people she didn't know that took time out of their day to support her. The look on her face was worth it all. The baptism was really special and I was excited that I could be a part of her special day.
We were able to do service for the city of Davis. we were helping them with mulching and it was all fun and games until i realized man labor is hard and I came away with 4 blisters on my hand, I must not know how to hold a shovel correctly because I have a big blister in the middle of my palm, don't ask me how I did that but i did haha
This week was Easter and I LOVE EASTER. There is something so special about being able to be a missionary and testify that He is Risen. All week we talked and visited with people that there is a Savior, that He died for them and that because of them they will live again. I was a little nervous to see how a Holiday would be out on the mission but it ended up being one of the best easter's ever. It is no joke when God says he will take care of his missionaires.
On Saturday, Sister Baker who is 95 years old, invited us over for Easter Lunch at her place. We were so thrilled to be invited and was excited for some grandma cooking. We had the best lunch ever with her family and Sister Baker had special seats for us at the Adult table. My heart just wanted to cry happy tears because these people are letting us be apart of their family, of their traditions. After Lunch, Sister Baker tells Everyone, now go look for your Easter Baskets, they are hidden somewhere in the house. Me and Sister Saavedra sat down and smiled at everyone as they started to go look for their baskets. Sister Baker goes, "honeys what are you doing? go find your easter basket. you are apart of the family today" Gosh, the generosity and love that people show. gosh i love people. We searched the house and found our easter Baskets that were labeled with "Sister 1" and "Sister 2". She then had us go do the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, where she told us that there was admist all the eggs, a special egg hidden with our names on it. I guess it's an old person thing to like Gardening because Sister Bakers backyard is beautiful, the perfect little place for easter egg hunts. We found our eggs and then went inside to do an Egg activity with eggs that show what Christ went through, how much he lives us and that the tomb is now empty because he is alive. I can't even describe the amount of love and joy I felt on Saturday, at Sister Baker's house. This lady brings us into her home and treats us like her family making sure that we feel loved and appreciated. I could barely hold back my tears as I thanked her for letting us be apart of her special easter day. I may have been far away from home, but I'm amazed to see how people make sure that they know I have a home here too.
LOL to the fact that I had the absolute greatest day at Sister Bakers besides the fact that her daughter makes some good rolls and I had three. Now this wouldnt be a problem except I think that I have a gluten intolerant problem... As we drove to Woodland for the Women's Broadcast, I thought oh my gosh I am going to throw up all over this member's car. Sister Gonzalez car was spared but me and sister saavedra ran into the church and I threw up all of easter lunch. LOL. I felt much better after so thats good but rolls, yaaa no bueno. The General Women's Broadcast was very good though. They talked a lot about the importance of serving and love. I loved a quote from one of the speakers. She said "Love is making room in your heart for someone else". I love that.
Easter Sunday. I love the Savior. I can't believe that he loved us enough that he broke the bands of death and through His atonement, the demands of justice could be met through mercy and compassion. Again, I will say that this years Easter Video will touch your hearts. WATCH IT WATCH IT if you havent yet. It will change the way you view death, change the way you view your savior.
Again, the members of this ward are so sweet and a lady invited us over for Easter dinner. She was so sweet and had easter baskets for us and let us join in on her easter festitives. She does this Easter egg hunt where certain eggs have little numbers in them which correlates with bigger prizes. Sister Triechler told us to hold our own because the kids go CRAZY. the kids from ages 10-21 went nuts. Me and sister saavedra were a little scared haha I found a total of 6 eggs and almost lost an arm haha not really, but you catch my drift. I must just have good luck because out of my eggs 4 of them had numbers. Which got me 4 gift cards to restaurants around town. Mom take hints-- haha We had a really great easter dinner and she had us all hold hands around the table and say grace, she is so cute and so nice
This easter was so special. So special because people let me and sister saavedra be apart of their family. I don't know if I have felt so loved. I love West Sacramento. I love the truly, sweet people I get to meet, get to teach, get to love.
The mission does things to you but its oh so so great. I love this gospel. I love my savior. hallelujah
godspeed always
sister thurgood
